Skinny Limits Juice Cleanse

Hello friends!

By now, you all know that I make fresh, organic veggie juice in my Breville juicer everyday as my first meal of the day. I also like to give my body a rest from digestion from time to time and give it a "deep cleansing" by doing juice fasts with the change of the seasons. I think it's a good way of welcoming the new season : )

When I do these juice fasts, which typically last anywhere between 3-7 days, I like to supplement the juice that I make every morning with fresh pressed juices from a great company so I'm not juicing all day long myself (this gets exhausting after a while!). I was recently introduced to Skinny Limits fresh cold-pressed, raw juices and was beyond happy with the quality of their juice! I try not to consume more sugar than what's in my fruit so I decided to go with their organic juice called "Balance 2" because it didn't contain agave like their other ones.

The Gangsta Gardener

"If kids grow kale, kids eat kale. If they grow tomatoes, they eat tomatoes....if they're not shown how food effects the mind and the body, they blindly eat whatever the hell you put in front of them." -Ron Finley

Curb garden.I love Ron Finley! He's not a talker, he's a doer, a true leader in my book, and the world needs more people like him. I have conversations all the time where people complain about the price of organic food. They say it's too expensive. Well, let me ask you this--

Green Juice

This is my daily breakfast.

I know, I know...it's green and doesn't look very yummy but it IS! I promise! And so incredibly good for you as it provides all the vitamins, minerals and enzymes the body needs for the day.

I've been making fresh orgainic veggie/fruit juices for the past 6 years and have seen incredible health changes with my husband and I. We'll never go back to the old way of eating breakfast (and I never say never about anything). Whenever we do want breakfast foods, we'll have it for dinner that night : )

Vegan Cole Slaw

Cabbage is an amazing vegetable to eat anytime. It’s known to lower cholesterol, and its packed with tons of vitamin C, making it an amazing beauty food. It also helps repair the body from the inside out. -Kimberly Snyder

Last night for dinner, we didn't have our usual container of mixed greens for salad in the fridge, but we DID have 1/2 of a head of yellow cabbage. So, I decided to make cole slaw on a whim...and it was DELICIOUS! It was so good, in fact, my sis and I licked our plates afterwards!

Don't judge :)

Tiny Buddha Article

“There is more to life than increasing its speed.” ~Gandhi

Happy 12/12/12 my friends!

I woke up this morning and read this beautiful article about living in the moment, seeing miracles everywhere and being at peace in life...all things I continuously work on. It's pretty awesome so I wanted to share part of the article below. Check out the Tiny Buddha website to read it in it's entirety and other inspiring articles. It's one of my favorite sites! In the meantime, enjoy this little snippet from the article "7 Tips To Help You Slow Down And Enjoy Your Life As It Is":

My New Holiday Tradition

Christmas, my child, is love in action...When you love someone, you give to them, as God gives to us. Every time we love, every time we give, it's Christmas. -Dale Evans Rogers

Ah, the holidays are in the air and I love it! Thanksgiving, in particular, is my favorite holiday because it's simply about giving thanks for the blessings in life.

It was crazy to read about all the altercations adults got into at stores during "Black Friday." I actually read a story where a fight broke out over underwear at a store. Craziness! People actually hurt each other over "stuff." "Stuff" that truly doesn't matter. "Stuff" that their children won't care about in a few months because there will be more "stuff" they'll be obsessing over. Some stores even started their Black Friday sales at 8pm on Thursday (Thanksgiving Day)! So much for spending time with family.

So I started asking myself...when did people forget what the holidays are ACTUALLY about?

'YES' on CA Prop 37!

To date, genetically modified foods don’t offer the eater any benefits whatsoever — only a potential, as yet undetermined risk. So how irrational would it be, really, to avoid them? ~Michael Pollan

(click to enlarge) Although we could all use a 3rd hand from time to time, I don't think this is what we have in mind. It's not irrational at all in my book! Voting 'YES' on Prop 37 is a no-brainer to me, but allow me to shed a little more light on why all Californians should do so as well...

Just as it's required of companies to post nutritional facts on processed food products, we should have the right to know if they're made with genetically modified organisms (GMOs) as well. GMO food is grown from seeds that are made in a science laboratory by biotech companies like Monsanto, DuPont, Syngenta and Bayer. There's nothing organic or natural about GMOs and consuming these foods without knowing if it's safe is just plain stupid. Unless, of course, you simply don't care, and I'm assuming that's not the case since you're reading my blog :)

So, if GMOs have not been proven safe, why would you be okay with testing them on your body? On your kids? On your pets? As my friend Scott says, that's "CRIZAZY"!

Vegan Split Pea Souperz

The greatest wealth is health. -Unknown

What can I say...I'm a soup lover; a connoisseur really. And this recipe is a little slice of heaven right here on earth. I made this for the second time tonight and as I sipped a little from my spoon to taste it, I closed my eyes and thought, "Geez, Louise! That's frickin' good." ; )

This split pea soup is going to be something I make often, especially during the holidays when I'm freezing my arse off while visiting family in Massachusetts. It makes enough for about 4 people and is AWESOME reheated on the stovetop the next day. Enjoy, my friends...

Grape Smoothie

This smoothie is better than candy...I've never had candy that tastes this good! -said my brother-in-law today

Shut the front door! Better than candy?! That's the best compliment I've ever received about one of my smoothie.

Ingredients (makes enough for 2-4 peeps). Per usual, everything organic if you can, especially for berries and grapes since they're more heavily sprayed with chemicals:

2 or more cups of red grapes (go crazy! LOL!)

2 ripe bananas

1 cup of blackberries or blueberries

About 1 cup of almond milk
