Hello, My Fellow Veggie Juicers!

This past May, I celebrated my 6-year juicing anniversary! Ever since my nutritionist (now dear friend) Natalia Rose, explained the tremendous health benefits of juicing, the first thing I put into my body each day is my fresh, organic veggie juice. It infuses my body with all the vitamins, enzymes and minerals that my body needs. No need for dietary supplements! Susie's Spicy Tea

I've been reading a ton on how great it is to have hot water with lemon every morning because it's good for digestion. Well, here is my own interpretation of that, which I think is MUCH tastier! The flavors provide a party for your tastebuds : )

-1 bag of Traditional Medicinals Organic Ginger tea

-1/2 of a lemon

-1 tsp of your favorite raw/organic honey

-a dash or two of organic cayenne pepper

-8 oz hot water

Give Us This Day Our Daily Juice...

Hola Amigos!

One of the most important things I do for optimal health and to help detoxify my body (because I polluted it with unhealthy foods for 25 years!) is drink 16-24 ounces of fresh veggie juice everyday. It's the first thing I consume each day because it's best to have it on an empty stomach; that way, the body can drink up all the vitamins, minerals and enzymes the juice contains. Also, veggie juice is super cleansing in your digestive system! It helps loosen up stagnant waste and helps is move out of the body, i.e. detoxifying the body.

And I hear all the thoughts going through your head; believe me, I've been there! We've all been conditioned to eat like everybody else...but that way of eating is literally prematurely killing us! We've got to make a change! So, don't knock the juice till ya try it, homies. My harshest skeptic has smiled and given me a wide-eyed "Mmmmm" upon taking a sip of this liquid goodness, so be open-minded and give it a try. You won't regret it. In fact, you may find you love it like I do!

Below is the recipe which I got from my nutritionist, Natalia Rose. Of course, if you can get the ingredients organically, your body will thank you for it as your vegetables will not have been irradiated, doused in pesticides or grown from genetically modified seeds.

It's Cancer Awareness Month...Let's FINALLY Be Aware!

It's "cancer awareness month" in the good ole US-of-A and it amazes me how terribly-worded and phrased all the fundraisers are -- the "Avon Walk For Breast Cancer", "North Shore Cancer Walk", "North Shore Cancer Run", etc.

Let me ask you this: why are we walking/running or doing anything FOR cancer? I think it's time we start the Walk for Health, the Run for Detoxification, the Walk for Life, the Walk for Wellness! Let's start choosing our words wisely and carefully. Mother Teresa said, "I was once asked why I don't participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I'll be there." Brilliant right?

We need to choose our words carefully because words come with intention, and intention becomes reality. Let's start putting the right kind of energy out into the universe. If you want cancer, then put that word out there...but if you want health, choose that intention instead!

When I was Miss USA back in 2003, I was a spokesperson for breast and ovarian cancer, and pretty much didn't sleep during the month of October because I was traveling all over the country from one fundraiser, gala or walk/run to another FOR these diseases. And I didn't even realize the contradiction.

This is from the official Miss USA website:

"Since 1998, when the Miss Universe Organization made the decision to support breast and ovarian cancer survivors, each Miss USA has spent thousands of hours educating the public about breast and ovarian cancer. Due to her participation in events like breast cancer walks, seminars and telethons, our titleholders have helped raise millions of dollars for research. 

Miss USA will spend countless hours working with groups like Susan G. Koman for the Cure, Gilda's Club and the USO."

...and THAT I did! I helped raise about $30 million for breast and ovarian cancer research and awareness, but where did that money go? Despite the fact that millions and millions of dollars are raised annually, the number of cancer cases continues to rise year after year; worse still, patients are getting younger and younger. Did you know President Nixon declared war on cancer in 1973? Well I've got news: we're losing the war because we're fighting on the wrong front!

Susie's Sweet Smoothie: "Smuit Froothie"

Snakes and scorpions and ants...OH MY! This week, the "School Pride" team is in Needles, CA. It's in the Mojave Desert and yup, we've been warned to look out for red ants, scorpions, and rattle snakes. We are renovating Needles High School in 115 degree weather so I thought I'd cool down and recharge Kym, Jacob, Tom, Kindra (makeup stylist) and Amy (hair stylist) with my famous "Smuit Froothie" (get it? LOL!). It's a fruit smoothie that will surely be a hit as a deliciously healthy afternoon is at my house anyway! Even my two Chihuahua's, Lupe and Oscar, love it. I always have to make a little extra for them : )

My pup, Lupe, licking leftover Smuit Froothie, LOL!It's super simple, quick to make and really filling. I make it most days at home an hour or so after drinking my "Green Lemonade" (fruit & veggie juice). Or I'll make it in the afternoon after my lunch has been digested (3+ hours after consumption).

Quick little fun fact about eating fruit: the human body processes fruit best on an empty stomach. One of the worst things you can do is eat fruit for dessert. Your body is still digesting your meal and because our bodies are 98.6 degrees, the fruit ends up fermenting in our guts! Gross! I learned this from my nutritionist, Natalia Rose, who's been studying how food reacts in our bodies and how it affects weight loss, illness and overall health for over a decade. As I fly over the state of Texas, en route to Baton Rouge (our next destination on “School Pride”), I can’t help but notice all the farmland we’re flying over...and that made me think of the animals living down there. I have grown a new fondness and respect for myself, nature and all things living as I continue to study and learn more about our environment, health and nutrition, the human body and how different foods react in our digestive systems. What I’ve learned is both fascinating and disturbing, and that new found respect, especially as it pertains to farm animals, has driven me to write this particular blog about milk and dairy farming in general.

It’s moving at a snail’s pace, but Americans are starting to realize just how bad almost all dairy (especially pasteurized dairy) is for us. It wreaks havoc in our bodies! The truth of the matter is we are ALL lactose intolerant to a certain degree. Our white blood cell count rises every time we ingest dairy just as it does when our body is trying to fight off a virus. Dairy is also mucus forming. Next time you have milk in your cereal, a coffee drink with some kind of dairy, or eat a bunch of cheese, notice that you have all this phlegm in your throat…that, my friends is the mucus and it’s not just in throat. It’s in your stomach, intestines, and colon too.

There’s so much false information out there about dairy. It’s in magazines, on the news...even doctors will give you false information! Well, I want to enlighten you with the truth -- what the real deal is with all things made of milk (ice cream, yogurt, cheese -- ANYTHING containing milk).

Why I Eat the Way I Eat

For the past 5 years, I’ve been educating myself in health, nutrition, wellness and detoxification in an attempt to prevent disease and live a life full of vitality. Boy, have I been on a shocking and enlightening path! I’ve learned some disgusting things about our country’s agriculture that most don’t know, but if they did, they’d be shocked and surely change their everyday diets (THAT blog is coming up soon my friends).

In a nutshell, what I’ve learned from reading books, like “The Cause and Cure of Human Illness” by Prof. Arnold Ehret, is that the human body has the incredible ability to heal itself if you give it what it needs to thrive -- nutritious foods that come from the earth organically. No pesticides, hormones, or chemicals and toxins.

I think this quote best describes what I consume:
